【Room Review】Hotel MiraCosta — My Favorite Tokyo Disney Hotel & Why

Hotel Review
{}

If I had to pick one Tokyo Disney hotel to recommend above all others, it would be Hotel MiraCosta — without hesitation.

The location, the atmosphere, the perks, the restaurant — everything comes together in a way that no other Disney hotel quite replicates. Is it easy to book? Absolutely not. Is it worth the effort? Every single time.

Here’s my full review from my May 2024 stay.

  • 🛏️ The room — Toscana Side, Capitano Mickey Superior Room
  • 🎨 The interior — a ceiling that looks like a planetarium
  • 🍽️ Oceano — dinner at the harbour-view restaurant

  • 💰 Honest verdict — and the brutal truth about booking

🚢 Arrival & Check-In

Getting There

MiraCosta’s check-in doesn’t happen at the hotel itself — it takes place at the Information Center just next to the Maihama Station. Luggage can also be dropped off here, which is incredibly convenient.

Since room access wasn’t available until 4:00 PM, we left our bags at the Information Center and headed to Ikspiari for some shopping while we waited. A perfect way to spend the afternoon!

💡 Timing tip: we arrived around midday and sailed through check-in with no wait at all. Arrive in the morning, however, and you’ll likely join a long queue — many guests drop off luggage and check in before the parks open, which creates a busy rush early in the day.

🛏️ The Room: Toscana Side — Capitano Mickey Superior Room

Room Type & Price

I chose the Capitano Mickey Superior Room on the Toscana Side — the most affordable room category at MiraCosta.

The Toscana Side faces the park entrance area and the surrounding hotel streetscape rather than the harbour. For reference, our stay in May 2024 on a weekday came to ¥64,000 — with rooms in this category starting from around ¥60,000 depending on the season.

🎨 The Interior: A Ceiling Like a Planetarium

The room had twin beds, with a travel bed added for our third guest.

But the first thing that stopped me when I walked in was the ceiling.

It’s painted with a stunning mural — constellations and star maps, with Disney characters woven into the night sky throughout. It genuinely feels like lying under a planetarium.

The walls continue the theme — detailed murals featuring Disney characters are painted throughout the room. Every surface has been considered. It’s immersive in the best possible way.

🚿 The Bathroom & Amenities

The bathroom follows the standard Disney hotel layout — functional and well-equipped, consistent with other hotels in the resort.

The vanity is stocked with MiraCosta-exclusive amenities — each item in the signature hotel design. And yes — the MiraCosta plastic cup is yours to take home. If you’ve been following this blog for a while, you’ll know I collect these cups from every Disney hotel I stay at. The MiraCosta design is one of my favorites.

🏛️ Hotel Atmosphere

If Tokyo Disneyland Hotel feels like a grand European palace and Fantasy Springs Hotel feels like fairy-tale luxury, MiraCosta has its own entirely distinct identity: the warmth and elegance of Venice, Italy.

The architecture, the colour palette, the archways — it all evokes a Mediterranean waterfront in the most beautiful way. Of all the Disney hotels I’ve stayed at, MiraCosta has my favorite aesthetic by far. It feels sophisticated and romantic without being intimidating — a genuinely adult atmosphere that still carries unmistakable Disney magic.

🍽️ Dinner at Oceano

For dinner, we dined at Oceano — the Mediterranean buffet restaurant inside MiraCosta, overlooking Mediterranean Harbour.

The plan was to watch Believe! Sea of Dreams from the terrace during dinner. Unfortunately, the show was cancelled that evening due to bad weather. That was genuinely disappointing — watching Believe! from Oceano is one of the main reasons I book this restaurant.

The buffet itself was wonderful — but I won’t pretend the cancellation didn’t sting.

💡 I’ve dined at Oceano on other visits and watched Believe! from the terrace — and it is absolutely worth planning for. Check out my dedicated Oceano post for the full experience! 👇

⭐ Guest Perks

Happy Entry — Both Parks!

This is one of MiraCosta’s most significant advantages over other Disney hotels.

MiraCosta guests can use Happy Entry for both Tokyo Disneyland AND Tokyo DisneySea. The only other hotel that offers DisneySea Happy Entry is the Fantasy Springs Hotel.

The Happy Entry queue for DisneySea is conveniently located right next to the hotel — making the whole process smooth and stress-free.

⚠️ As with all Disney hotels, Happy Entry is valid the morning after check-in — not on your check-in day.

The Private Guest Gate

During the day, MiraCosta guests can enter and exit DisneySea through a dedicated private gate — exclusively for hotel guests.

This is one of those perks that sounds minor until you actually use it. Staying inside the park means you can pop back to the room whenever you need to — drop off shopping, take a proper rest, freshen up. The hotel and the park are one and the same.

💡 Note: the private gate is for daytime use only. The morning Happy Entry uses a main entrance.

💰 Honest Verdict

My Favorite Disney Hotel — Full Stop

MiraCosta is, in my personal opinion, the best all-round Disney hotel at Tokyo Disney Resort. Location, atmosphere, perks, and restaurant — it delivers on every front.

That said, there is one significant caveat.

The Booking Reality

This hotel is extraordinarily difficult to book.

Reservations open on a set date, and rooms — particularly the popular harbour-view categories — sell out within 10 seconds of the booking window opening. I am not exaggerating.

For our stay, we didn’t get lucky on opening day. We spent weeks checking the reservation site daily, hunting for cancellation slots in every spare moment we had — and eventually, we got one. It takes patience and persistence, but it is possible.

💡 Strategy: check the reservation site frequently, not just on the opening day. Cancellations do happen — and if you’re persistent, you can catch them.

A Note on Room Types & Pricing

MiraCosta offers a wide range of rooms, from the Toscana Side starting at around ¥60,000 to suites reaching ¥210,000. The most sought-after rooms are the harbour-view categories — and for good reason.

From a harbour-view room, you can watch Believe! Sea of Dreams from your own bed. Watching a full Disney harbour show from inside your hotel room, without setting foot in the park — that is something no other hotel at Tokyo Disney Resort can offer.

Harbour-view rooms start from around ¥100,000 — and still sell out instantly. It’s on my personal bucket list, and one day I’ll make it happen.

Who Should Stay at MiraCosta?

✅ Perfect for:

  • Couples and adults traveling together
  • DisneySea lovers — this hotel is in DisneySea
  • Anyone who wants to watch Believe! from their room (harbour-view rooms)
  • Guests who want the freedom to pop in and out of the park all day

❌ Not ideal for:

  • Guests who struggle with the competitive booking process
  • Those prioritizing Disneyland over DisneySea
  • Anyone who wants a guaranteed easy booking experience

One More Thing: MiraCosta Weddings

MiraCosta also hosts Disney weddings — and it’s as magical as it sounds. I actually attended a wedding preview at MiraCosta, and I’ll be writing a dedicated post about that experience soon. Stay tuned!
