Hi, I’m Ami — a Tokyo Disney superfan with 100+ visits under my belt. And I have some major news to share.
On July 30, 2026, Tokyo Disney Resort announced one of the biggest changes to the park experience in recent memory: the free Priority Pass system is being abolished entirely. From September 1, 2026, every attraction fast lane option at both parks will be paid — no exceptions.
Here’s everything you need to know about what’s changing, what it means for your visit, and how I think it will reshape the Tokyo Disney experience going forward.

📣 What’s Changing — The Full Announcement
Effective September 1, 2026, Tokyo Disney Resort will eliminate the free Priority Pass system across both parks.
Until now, guests could use a mix of:
- Disney Premier Access (DPA) — paid fast lane (¥1,000–¥2,500 per person per attraction)
- Priority Pass — free fast lane, available via the official app on the day
From September 1, the Priority Pass disappears. All fast lane options will be paid DPA only.

💡 What This Means for Your Visit
DPA Will Become More Valuable — Not Less

Here’s the counterintuitive part: making all fast lanes paid should actually make DPA works better.
When free Priority Passes existed, the combined fast lane queue was still congested. With only paid DPA holders using the fast lane, the total number of people in those queues should decrease — meaning DPA gets you through faster than before.
DPA Purchase Rules Haven’t Changed — But the Pressure Has Increased
Current DPA rules:
- Can only be purchased after entering the park
- Must wait 1 hour (or after the admission time of your purchased, whichever comes first) before purchasing the next one
With the most popular attractions — Beauty and the Beast, Soarin’, Frozen Journey — already selling out their DPA early on busy days, that sell-out window will now arrive even faster. More guests competing for the same limited DPA slots means you need to move quicker than ever.
Single Rider Queues Will Get Much Busier

Attractions with Single Rider options — including Beauty and the Beast at Disneyland, and Raging Spirits and Frozen Journey at DisneySea — offer a free alternative to DPA. Expect significantly more guests to use this option as a workaround. What was previously a reliable 10–15 minute shortcut could become considerably longer.

Book Now →🏆 The Vacation Package Becomes Even More Powerful

This is the big one.
The Attraction Unlimited Vacation Package — which I covered in full detail in my series here ⬇️

— lets you ride unlimited times with no DPA purchase required. No sell-out concerns, no 1-hour wait between purchases, no additional cost per attraction.
With free passes gone and all fast lanes now paid, the value of this package increases significantly. And with higher demand comes a likely price increase in the near future. If you’ve been considering the Attraction Unlimited package, sooner is better than later.
📈 My Predictions — How This Changes Tokyo Disney
1. The Gap Between Budget and Premium Visitors Widens
Tokyo Disney has been moving in this direction for a while — but this change accelerates it. Guests who can afford multiple DPA purchases per day will have a dramatically better experience than those who can’t. For families in particular, the per-person costs add up fast.
2. Off-Peak Days May Not Be as “Off-Peak” Anymore
Here’s an interesting ripple effect: budget-conscious guests will gravitate toward cheaper ticket days to save money for DPA purchases. This could mean previously quiet days get busier — while more expensive days (which fewer guests choose) actually ease up somewhat.
3. Crowd Distribution Within Parks Will Shift
With free passes gone, the standby queues for formerly free-pass attractions will grow longer. Guests who previously skipped standby entirely using free passes will now either pay for DPA, use Single Rider, or join the regular queue. Expect wait time increases at Pooh’s Hunny Hunt, Big Thunder Mountain, and Raging Spirits in particular.
💡 The Bottom Line
| What’s Changing | Details |
|---|---|
| 📅 Effective date | September 1, 2026 |
| ❌ Free Priority Pass | Abolished entirely |
| ✅ New paid DPA attractions | Pooh’s Hunny Hunt, Monsters Inc., Big Thunder, Raging Spirits + more |
| 🚫 Discontinued entirely | Star Tours, Turtle Talk, Magic Lamp Theater, SeaRider, 20,000 Leagues |
| 💳 All fast lanes | Paid DPA only from September 1 |
| 🏆 Biggest winner | Attraction Unlimited Vacation Package holders |
| ⚠️ Watch out for | Faster DPA sell-outs, busier Single Rider queues |
This is a significant shift — and how you plan your Tokyo Disney visit needs to shift with it. My full updated strategy guide for post-September visits is coming soon. Stay tuned! 🏰✨
